Street View in Japan was launched in 2008, but is no longer fully available due to privacy concerns.
This is because the Street View car’s high-mounted cameras capture images of the inside of homes.
Google lowered the camera height and re-shot the images, and all previous ones were made private.
(However, all of the re-shot were also made private). But there is a way to see the old images by using a direct link. Example:

This is the higher camera.

Incidentally, it seems that for some reason, Street View from 2008 was released around 2021. However, it was quickly deleted.
Bonus: Mercedes-Benz W221

Adding this information, until 2011, Google Japan used Toyota Prius cars (probably a hybrid car). After that, it started using other vehicles, this time from Subaru Impreza (2011-19). Currently, the 4th generation of cameras are still being used, they are using Suzuki Alto cars. Let’s wait and see which new vehicle will be used for the new Google Street View fleet in Japan, with the 5th generation cameras.
