High resolution images in Boston?
So we all know by now the google van is the only vehicle that takes the hi res shots. it appears all the new cities that were added are low res, but what i noticed if you drive through some intersections in boston it switchs back and forth from low res to hi res view. What im getting at is there may be a section in Boston the google van covered that no one knows about yet. I dont see why they would take a trip there for no reason unless they were just passing through.
(You can see that it’s high resolution by the larger + and – scale with 4 positions instead of just 3 when it’s low resolution.)
The difference between night and day
In the picture just click on NE (northeast). It goes from daylight to full dark.
More StreetView cities added today
Google’s StreetView images are now avialable for these additional cities: Boston, Providence, Dallas, Fort Worth, Indianapolis, Detroit, Minneapolis and St. Paul. That brings the total number of cities covered by Google StreetView to 23. Soon cities in Australia, Canada and Europe will be added to the list.
Street view will become anonymous
Google is thinking about installing a filter on the Street View images in the US to make it more anonymous. Macworld writes that:
When Street View is rolled out in Europe, Google will alter Street View photos to make sure that faces and license plate numbers are no longer visible, and the company is also thinking about doing the same with the U.S. version of the product, said Jane Horvath, senior privacy counsel with Google.
It’s been known previously that Google would do this to the European and Canadian version due to privacy laws there, but it’s news to me that they might also do it to the US images.
