It looks to me like this guy was originally a rider in the google car. if you go back, to when the guy just appears out of nowhere, the google car had pulled over. Then, when the guy mysteriously disappears, there is a gap of time that you can judge by the woman walking on the road. a period of time passed according to her, but no real distance was traveled by the car.
