19 cities in Slovakia will get a visit from the Google Street View car starting next week, April 11.
These are the lucky cities according to Google Europe: “Bratislava, Banska Bystrica, Bardejov, Humenne, Komarno, Kosice, Levice, Liptovsky Mikulas, Martin, Nitra, Nove Zamky, Poprad, Presov, Prievidza, Rimavská Sobota, Trencin, Trnava and Zilina”.
It will take several months for the images to go live on Google Maps.
Today Ovi Maps by Nokia released their 3D Maps including Street View for select cities. You can see an example from San Francisco below in 360 degree images. The street view images have been taken by Navteq.
Ovi Maps Street level view is so far only available in London (UK), San Francisco (USA), Helsinki (Finland), Oslo (Norway) and Copenhagen (Denmark).
Four Bing Streetside cars are today starting to take photos from the streets of London. Microsoft Bing Maps recently announced they will take photos in Germany too. Bing Streetside is currently only available in the US, but will be coming to Europe this summer.
Google has announced that they will not add any more cities than the 20 currently available on Street View in Germany. This comes as a surprise to many as Google recently won a legal battle in Germany for it’s Street View service. Competitor Microsoft Bing Maps is now starting to take photos for it’s Streetside in Germany. And is already getting complaints from germans.
I’m guessing Google will let Microsoft take some of the privacy complaints for a while in Germany. And then be back in a few years time?
The couple named Boring filed suit in April 2008 against google for taking photos of their house from a private road. They failed to win then, but came back to court this year. And now they actually won.
Charges were changed to trespassing. The judge found that Google was guilty of Count II trespass after Google and the Boring couple agreed to a settlement.
So, how much money did the Boring couple get from this settlement? The total amount they got from the settlement was… wait for it… one dollar!

Brazil (or as they say in Rio – Brasil) is now on Google Maps Street View. Ireland also got Street View images today.

Google Street View coming today to Ireland
Today both Ireland and Brazil will get Street View images for the first time according to our sources. In Ireland we can expect images from Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway and Waterford. Street View is already available in Northern Ireland as part of UK.
Google has it’s European headquarters in Dublin, Ireland.
We will keep you posted and surely add a lot of new images later today when Street View is available in Ireland and Brazil.
We’ve received some great news from Brazil today! Google have announced that Street View images from Brazil will be available next week. On September the 30th you will be able to see the largest cities: São Paulo, Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro in 360-degree StreetView images.
In January 30 cars started taking photos in Brazil. The plan was to register all Brazilian cities chosen to host the 2014 World Cup. The work to cover all those cities will continue.
It is possible that images from more areas around the world will be released on the same day. That is usually what has happened previously. At the moment we have no information about where. We will keep you posted.
In a blog post today Raphael Leiteritz, (Product Manager at Google Maps Europe) gave us the great news that StreetView images from Germany will be available this year. German newspaper Zeit claim it will happen in November.
The 20 largest cities will be part of this first release in Germany: Berlin, Bielefeld, Bochum, Bonn, Bremen, Dortmund, Dresden, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Essen, Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg, Hannover, Köln, Leipzig, Mannheim, München, Nürnberg, Stuttgart and Wuppertal.
Due to privacy issues, Google has developed a new service where anyone can make their own house unrecognizable before the pictures will go online. This is only if you live in the cities mentioned above. You can report it until September 15.
