Google Canada just announced they will cover more of Vancouver and Whistler ahead of the 2010 Winter Games.

Vancouver, 27 November 2009—Next week, Google will boost its Street View imagery of Canada by capturing images of the 2010 Winter Games venues in Vancouver and Whistler, including Canada Hockey Place, the Richmond Olympic Oval, the Olympic Villages, and other Games sites. This will mark the first special collection of Street View imagery in Canada.

Image-capturing will occur in parts of Greater Vancouver and Whistler the week of November 30.

Bing streetview coming soon

Articles Bing Streetside · 1 comment

Bing vanA car taking photos for Microsofts Bing Maps images, similar to Google StreetView, has been spotted in Vancouver, Canada today. When Bing will release images is not clear yet, but we hope it’s soon. Since they are now getting images from Vancouver, my guess is that it will be ahead of the winter Olympics in this city. I believe it will have a different name than “streetview” though.

(You can preview a very early version of it here. It was released several years ago, so the final version will surely look much better.)

StreetView now available in Sweden

You can now view images from several cities in Sweden in a new similar service to Googles StreetView. Lokaldelen has created 360 degrees panorama images of a couple of cities. They have named this service Streetview. I’m not sure what Google will think of this…

Unfortunately only the main shopping streets are covered so far. I haven’t found a way to link directly to an image. This is the old town (Gamla Stan) in the capital Stockholm. Images are also available from the center of some other swedish cities like Halmstad, Helsingborg, Kalmar, Karlskrona, Lund, Malmö and Växjö.
