Traffic jam again at streetviewfun.com
Our host had to close us down for 15 minutes earlier today due to heavy traffic. Visitors apparently came here thanks to an article in todays Liberation (french newspaper) about StreetView where streetviewfun.com was mentioned. I’m sorry about this interruption and we’ll try to avoid similar problems in the future.
Traffic jam at streetviewfun.com
We’re getting a lot of traffic at the moment. The past 24 hours have been extreme, largely due to Kid wipes out on bike. Take a look if you haven’t seen it yet!
If you get any database errors you know why. That’s also why we had to remove the top 100 from the sidebar temporarily so the database will get a little less to do. You can still see the full Top 100 if you click at the button at the top right of every page.
In other site news, we have improved the Top Contributors list where members who have submitted the most StreetView sightings get listed. It’s now a Top 10 list. You can see this list at the bottom of the sidebar menu.
Streetviewfun.com in the news
We’ve been in the news again. This time Pittsburgh Tribune-Review writes a long article about Google Maps Street View and Streetviewfun.com:
They were bound to catch some odd, unusual — even naughty — pics.
Finding them on your own won’t be easy, but Streetviewfun.com helps.
Streetviewfun.com is “updated daily with funny and interesting Google Map Street View photos,” according to the Web site.
Street View users submit bizarre scenes to Streetviewfun.com, which posts the images. It collects images from similar Internet tools such as Mapjack.com, iiCosmo.com, Earthmine.com and Everyscape.com, according to the Web site.
Streetviewfun.com has a top 100 list where users can find a link to a car on fire, a police car following the Google car mounted with the digital cameras and sunbathing women.

Indianapolis Star writes about StreetViewFun.com
Indiana’s no 1 local media site Indianapolis Star have an article today about Streetview where they write about our site StreetViewFun.com
Catching offbeat images in Street View has become the subject of a blog devoted entirely to the subject.
The images, including a police officer pulling over a driver, car accidents or attractive joggers, are at https://www.streetviewfun.com/.
Indianapolis’ one appearance on the site comes when a Google camera catches a horse at a strange angle, making it appear as if it’s headless.
We actually currently have 2 images from Indianapolis and we have a few more coming up within a day or two.
Thumbs up and thumbs down instead of rating 1-5
Now you can vote for the images by thumbs up or thumbs down. We used to have a rating system from 1 to 5 stars. I hope that it will be easier to vote on images this way, so we’ll get more votes.
You vote by clicking one of the thumbs under the image. If you give a thumbs up to an image, it gets +2 and if you give a thumbs down, it gets -1. The total rating can be seen under the image.
We’re working on migrating the ratings for the old images to this new system. The ratings for the brand new images should be working as intended already.
